Macros per Meal Calculator for Coaches
Turn a client's daily macro targets into a meal-by-meal plan. Choose an equal split or give each meal a different share. You set the targets; the examples are not dietary recommendations.

Method and assumptions
Equal split: divide each daily macro by the number of meals. Custom split: multiply each daily macro by that meal's percentage ÷ 100. The same percentage applies to protein, carbohydrate and fat. For four meals, 20, 30, 30, 20 assigns 20% to the first and last meals and 30% to each middle meal.
Energy (kcal) = protein grams × 4 + carbohydrate grams × 4 + fat grams × 9. These general factors appear in Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, Annex XIV, published on legislation.gov.uk, checked 9 October 2026. The carbohydrate factor excludes polyols. This estimate does not account separately for fibre, polyols, alcohol or other energy sources, so it can differ from a food label's calorie total.
Example: 150 g protein, 240 g carbohydrate and 70 g fat provide an estimated 2,190 kcal. Four equal meals contain 37.5 g protein, 60 g carbohydrate and 17.5 g fat each, or 547.5 kcal per meal. Meal count and portions are planning choices, not a recommendation about how often to eat.
Use one percentage per meal and a total of 100%. A 0% share is allowed and produces a zero-macro row. The calculator keeps full precision and shows two decimal places where needed. Rounded meal rows can add up slightly differently from the daily total; use the unrounded daily targets when transferring the plan to a sheet.

4 meals share the daily targets: 150 g protein, 240 g carbohydrate and 70 g fat (2190 kcal). Each meal uses the same percentage for all three macros. Display rounding can cause small differences when adding meal rows.
| Meal | Share (%) | Protein (g) | Carbs (g) | Fat (g) | Energy (kcal) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meal 1 | 25 | 37.5 | 60 | 17.5 | 547.5 |
| Meal 2 | 25 | 37.5 | 60 | 17.5 | 547.5 |
| Meal 3 | 25 | 37.5 | 60 | 17.5 | 547.5 |
| Meal 4 | 25 | 37.5 | 60 | 17.5 | 547.5 |
| Daily total | 100 | 150 | 240 | 70 | 2190 |

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate macros per meal?
Start with the daily protein, carbohydrate and fat targets you have chosen. Divide each by the number of meals for an equal split, or multiply each by a meal's percentage divided by 100.
Can I give some meals larger portions?
Yes. Select Custom percentages and enter one number per meal, separated by commas. They must add up to 100. Each meal receives that share of all three macros; this tool does not set a separate split for each macro.
Does the calculator choose daily targets or meal frequency?
No. You choose the daily targets and one to eight meals. The defaults only demonstrate the arithmetic. Review the plan for the individual client before using it.
Why can calories differ from food labels?
This tool estimates calories from protein, carbohydrate and fat using general 4, 4 and 9 kcal-per-gram factors. It does not calculate fibre, polyols, alcohol or other energy sources separately. Food labels and rounded values can therefore differ.
Can I use these results in a client meal plan?
Yes. Copy the reviewed meal targets into your client sheet, then choose food portions and check the full plan. These results are targets, not a food list or a personalised nutrition recommendation.
